How we got here - becoming Shopify SEO experts
It started not with a plan, but with a problem. In 2013, I bootstrapped a cannabis vape manufacturing business and built the Shopify store myself from scratch. Within six months, the ecommerce side was turning over €30,000 a month. Not because of clever advertising, but because advertising wasn't an option. Google and Facebook had no interest in running ads for cannabis products, which meant SEO was the only lever worth pulling. So I pulled it, hard, and it worked.
The manufacturing business eventually failed in 2016 due to investor issues, but what survived was a very clear understanding of how organic search drives ecommerce revenue, and why it matters most when you can't just throw money at ads.
Fast forward to 2018. I was sitting in a corporate office in Dublin, staring out at a grey winter sky, day dreaming about sailing around Australia and travelling the world. The question wasn't really "what do I want to do?" It was "how do I fund it?" The answer turned out to be simple: if I could build a Shopify store that grew to €30k a month, I could build them for other people too.
I reached out to my network, got my first client within a month, and never really looked back. What started as freelance Shopify builds gradually expanded to include email marketing and Google Ads. In 2022 I incorporated the business as an agency. By 2025, email and ads were dropped entirely in favour of doing one thing properly: Shopify SEO. In 2026, the focus narrowed again, this time to the outdoor and watersports markets where the work is not just good, it's personal.

I have been building Shopify stores since 2013, starting with my own. That first store taught me more about ecommerce than any course or certification could. When you are the one watching the traffic, fixing the conversion rate, and figuring out why sales dropped or took off, things tend to stick.
Over the past decade I have worked with Shopify stores across Ireland, the UK, Australia, Canada, South Africa, and the US, covering everything from surf shops and kayak retailers to safety equipment suppliers, cycling wear, fashion, and vape brands. My specialism is organic search: finding the gaps in how a store is structured, how its pages are written, and how it signals authority to Google, then fixing them in a way that shows up in traffic and revenue.
When I am not deep in Ahrefs or reviewing a client's analytics data, I am usually in or on the water. I have raced sailing cruisers in Dublin Bay, crewed around the Canary Islands, surfed in some epic spots and spent time kitesurfing whenever the wind cooperates and occasionally when it really does not. The mountains get a look in too, mostly for the views and the excuse to eat a lot of good sushi afterwards. The point being: I did not get interested in outdoor retail by reading market reports.
